Într-o ceremonie despre care presa americană comentează că ar fi putut fi numită Independent Spirit Awards, după ce majoritatea premiilor au mers către producții independente, drama Boyohood, filmată pe parcursul a 12 ani, a câștigat Globul de Aur pentru Cel mai bun film. Totodată, Richard Linklater a primit trofeul pentru Cel mai bun regizor, iar Patricia Arquette, pentru Cea mai bună actriță în rol secundar la cea de-a 72-a ediție a premiilor oferite de Asociația Presei Străine de la Hollywood.
„În cele din urmă, concluzia este că nimeni nu e perfect pe lumea asta. Vreau să dedic acest premiu părinților meu, care mi-au oferit atâta dragoste și sprijin, și tuturor părinților și familiilor care trec prin din lumea asta și-și dau silința să fie bine”, a spus Richard Linklater.
The Grand Budapest Hotel a câștigat titlul de Cel mai bun film de comedie/ musical, în timp ce Leviathan al lui Andrei Zviaghințev și l-a adjudecat pe cel acordat celui mai bun film străin. „Suntem absolut fericiți”, a spus regizorul rus pe scenă.
Julianne Moore a fost remarcată pentru rolul dificil al unei femei care se confruntă cu primele semne ale Alzheimer-ului, în Still Alice, primind trofeul pentru Cea mai bună actriță într-o dramă, iar Amy Adams pentru cel din Big Eyes, care i-a adus Globul de Aur pentru interpretare feminină într-o comedie/ musical. În tabăra masculină, Eddie Redmayne a plecat cu Globul de Aur pentru Cel mai bun actor într-o dramă, pentru rolul lui Stephen Hawking din The Theory of Everything, iar Michael Keaton pentru Birdman, înscris la comedie/musical.
Fargo a fost desemnat Cea mai bună miniserie, iar The Affair – Cel mai bun serial TV. La animație, câștigătorul este How to Train Your Dragon 2.
Premiul de onoare Cecil B. DeMille i-a revenit lui George Clooney, care a amintit de scandalurile e-mailurilor de la Sony Pictures și și-a încheiat discursul cu „So, je suis Charlie”.
Amfitrioanele galei din Los Angeles au fost actrițele Tina Fey și Amy Poehler.
